Roof Renewal  

“The building was constructed in 1885, and the roof was problematic, showing signs of wear and tear. A building survey identified extensive water ingress and the slates, lead work and 

underlying waterproofings were failing. Therefore, the building needed a complete re-roof. 

We heard about Moran Roofing Specialist’s services through a CheckaTrade search and other online confirmatory searches. We instructed a full slate re-roof, including lead work, wooden rafters, insulation, waterproofing and hip replacement, all while working within a protected conservation area and saving as many original features as possible, i.e. clay finials to help maintain the original appearance. 

The Right To Manage (RTM) client needed an extensive breakdown of the costs throughout the project. Moran Roofing was very helpful in providing detailed quotes and responding to leaseholder changes and queries. They also supplied all the information we needed for our planning application (required due to the conservation status).

Overall, the project ran very well. We experienced some delays in completion due to COVID, the slates being in worse repair than initially expected and bad weather. The foreman (Jacko) and team were punctual, friendly and efficient and always kept the owners up to date with works completed and any delays/issues. Whilst the project exceeded the initial quote estimate, Moran Roofing were highly transparent and reasonable with the final costs. Moran Roofing justified the cost increases for the flat owners and provided the necessary support.

Due to a freak weather event, strong winds dislodged some felting on an un-tiled section of the roof which caused an unexpected leak which caused internal water damage. Moran Roofing sent out their roofer in the middle of the night to refit the felt and provided a dehumidifier the next day at no extra cost to help dry out the affected area. This demonstrated their ability to react quickly to resolve problems, and we appreciated how they went above and beyond.
